Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A gorgeous example of an unguentarium, free-blown from semi-translucent glass of an amber-pink hue, meant to hold scented oils and perfumes. The vessel exhibits an inverted piriform body with a rounded shoulder, a slight bulge along the lower neck, and a gently flared rim. Enveloping the entire vessel are layers of stunning windswept iridescence in vibrant silvery and rainbow hues that imbue the surfaces with an opulent presentation. Size: 1.375" W x 5.1" H (3.5 cm x 13 cm); 5.8" H (14.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection, collected prior to 2003

Condition
Minor nicks and abrasions to body, neck, and rim, with light encrustations, and heavy weathering film, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and great iridescence throughout.
