Description
William Joseph "Bill" Freeman (American, 1927-2012), oil on canvas, ca. mid 20th century CE. Signed on lower right. A beautiful Bill Freeman landscape painting set in early autumn as demonstrated by the golden yellow leaves of the trees shimmering in the sunlight. Freeman appreciated the picturesque as well as the sublime power of nature and his command of palette knife work as seen in this composition was beyond impressive. Size: 29.7" W x 23.625" H (75.4 cm x 60 cm); (frame): 35.25" W x 29.25" H (89.5 cm x 74.3 cm)
Bill Freeman grew up in West Texas on a farm just outside of El Paso. Interestingly, he worked as a horse wrangler, fought forest fires for the U.S. Forest Service, and was a field researcher and guide for the Arizona Game and Fish Department for twelve years in Arizona, Wyoming, and New Mexico prior to becoming an artist. It was not until the age of thirty that Freeman decided to become an artist specializing in Western landscapes. Today he is considered a pioneer of Western art centered on such storied locales as Scottsdale, Arizona and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
