Description
Massachusetts, Maine,1859-1936
Impressionist work depicting a young brunette woman in a white and pink gown leaning on a chair and gazing into a cheval mirror. The interior is illuminated by rays of sunshine filtered through the curtains in the background. As a Boston School artist Graves was taught in a realist fashion but grew to accept and utilize impressionism in his career.
Board 29 1/2" x 23 1/2",Frame 34 1/4" x 28 1/4"
Fresh from a Boston area, Massachusetts estate, passed through descent within the family, always together as a pair with the other Graves painting in the sale.
Signed "Abbott Graves" in lower right corner, surface wear and paint loss to signature area.

Condition
Light scattered areas of craquelure, minor spot areas of paint loss, small 5/8" tear lower-middle right on bed, otherwise presents well in original condition, estate fresh. Please refer to photographs.
