Description
A Near Eastern terracotta fertility figure, c. 1200 - 600 BC, the body rectangular with square profile, her face detailed with recessed eyes and prominent nose, her hair pulled back in rows to a large bun at the back of her head. The figure wears a collar and her exaggerated breasts are bordered with some kind of garment, scarification or tattoos, the front of the body with incised horizontal line and both navel and genitals indicated bordered by scarification or tattoos. H: 4 3/4 in (12 cm). An interesting type with white painted accents and light deposits. Ex New York private estate.
