Description
A Minoan terracotta bowl, c. 1500 BC, said to have been acquired in Crete. Of a well-known simple type discovered by the thousands in the rubbish deposits of the Minoan palace and considered as 'the world's oldest type of single use cup'. 1 3/4 x 3 5/8 in (4.4 x 9.2 cm). Light deposits. Recently the British Museum held an exhibition titled 'Rubbish And Us' which ran December 19, 2019 until February 23, 2020 which featured one of these cups. Ex collection of Colonel Maugham, UK, acquired in 1906.
