Description
Asia Minor, Anatolian, Chalcolithic Period, ca. 5500 BCE. A lovely pottery bowl of a rounded form on a flat base, the body decorated with overlapping, bold zigzag patterns painted in grey-black and running from the interior to the upper section of the exterior walls. One perforated lug handle was applied just below the rim for suspension or attachment. A special example from Anatolia, a region located where the European and Asian continents meet, and hence, a crossroads for many cultures engaged in migration or combat ever since the Chalcolithic Period/Early Bronze Age. Size: 6" in diameter x 2.875" H (15.2 cm x 7.3 cm)
