Description
Probably Baule people, Ivory coast. One pulley with a human head with long carefully incised horns. The other with a human face on one side and a relief carving of a lizard or crocodile on the other. Both with age splits, good patina. On gallery bases. The horned figure, approx. 7 1/4" H., with base approx. 9" H.
Provenance: Estate of Thomas McNemar, (1931-2019.) McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
