Description
John Steinbeck Signed Quote from "Of Mice and Men" -- Fantastic!
1p souvenir typescript certainly created on genuine letterhead and signed by American writer John Steinbeck (1902-1968) as "John Steinbeck" at center at a later date. On watermarked cream paper with "John Steinbeck / Box 1017 / Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York" letterhead. In near fine condition, with expected light wear to corners mentioned just for accuracy. 8.5" x 11".
Steinbeck has signed his name below ten lines of dialogue from the first few pages of Steinbeck's short story "Of Mice and Men", originally published in 1937. The excerpt is not very important in terms of content, but it perfectly captures the tone of the story, as well as establishes the central plot-driving rapport between protagonists George and Lennie.
John Steinbeck, known for his terse writing style and sympathetic portrayal of American life, won the Nobel Prize in 1962. Steinbeck's most famous works "Of Mice and Men" (1937) and "The Grapes of Wrath" (1939) explored the experience of poor migrants and agricultural workers during the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
