Cabinet-sized stereoview featuring a group of Indian scouts aiming Springfield trapdoor rifles toward a target off-camera. Standing with the scouts is an army officer holding his upturned rifle by the barrel. Verso ink inscription reads, "Company 'B' Indian Scouts / Fort Cummings New Mexico / November 28th 1881."

According to The United States Army and Navy Journal and Gazette of the Regular and Volunteer Forces XVIII & XIX, (1880-1882), Lieutenant J.F. Guilfoyle of the 9th Cavalry Regiment was in command of Company B, consisting of Indian Scouts, at Fort Cummings, New Mexico during the spring of 1881. He proceeded to enlist more scouts at San Carlos Indian Agency to join Lieutenant Schaeffer's Company C at Fort Cummings that fall.
