Description
Mahogany Glaze 6 7/8 inch vase decorated in 1894 by Albert R. Valentien, who arrayed an Asian scene around the vessel, consisting of six cranes gracefully flying beneath and around artistic clouds. Impressed with the Rookwood symbol, which indicates the date, shape 735 D and an R to indicate a red clay body, one of the major components of the Mahogany Glaze, and incised with a D to indicate the artist’s desire for Dark Standard Glaze and with Mr. Valentien’s incised initials. Excellent original condition with fine crazing.
