Item Details

Description

Mahogany Glaze vase decorated by Kataro Shirayamadani in 1889 with flowering trumpet vines. Impressed with the Rookwood insignia, which discloses the date, shape number 488 D and an R for red clay and incised with Shirayamadani's Japanese script signature. There is fine, overall crazing, restoration at the rim and some light glaze scratches. The Mahogany Glaze is formed by the application of the Standard Glaze onto the red clay body and the colors work very well with the orange shades of the trumpet flowers. Height is a generous 14 1/2 inches. From the Arthur & Rita Townley Collection.
