Description
Good Standard glaze portrait of a Native American male done in 1900 by Sturgis Laurence. The sitter wears a woven blanket around his shoulders and beads and feathers in his hair. Marked with the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape number 821 A and the incised monogram of the artist. Also with the incised notation “”Wea-Saw” “Shoshone”” on the bottom. Height 14 1/8 inches. There is fine overall crazing and a 1/2 inch chip on the rear bottom that occurred during firing. Elizabeth Rudisill Collection.
