Description
John F. Kennedy & Jackie Kennedy at Houston International Airport the Day Before the Assassination, Vintage Photo from Cecil Stoughton's Personal Collection
A color photo of 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy (1929-1994) greeting well-wishers at Houston International Airport on November 21, 1963, from the personal collection of JFK White House photographer Cecil W. Stoughton (1920-2008). (Just the top of President Kennedy's head is visible behind Jackie's head.) The print was apparently produced in the 1960s by Stoughton, and is hand-inscribed "C420-54-63" verso as part of Stoughton's unique numbering and filing system. The double-weight, glossy color photograph was printed on Kodak paper. Expected light surface wear, else near fine. 7" x 5".
This photo shows a moment from JFK's last full day alive: Thursday, November 21, 1963. The Kennedys had arrived in Texas via San Antonio earlier that day
Houston was the second stop scheduled on a 6-stop tour of Texas that also included Fort Worth, Dallas, Austin, and Johnson City. Kennedy was dead by lunchtime the following day.
A similar photograph--although not this exact view--can be found in the collection of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum under the accession number ST-C420-58-63.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
