"The Brittany Patrol was the naval organization directed from Brest, Finistere, the westermost tip of France. It was composed of French and American vessels of many types, which operated in the Bay of Biscay and west about halfway to the Azores. The vessels were occupied in patrolling for submarines, sweeping for mines, and defending shipping and troop transports against attack.
