"All Story Argosy [companion to 'The Argosy'], October 1896 to March 1897", published by Frank A. Munsey & Company, New York, 1897. Complete novels, serial stories, short stories, poems [contents: see photos]. No illustration. The All-Story Argosy, first published in 1896, launched a new genre of magazines, and is considered the pioneer among pulp magazines.
Hard boards, maroon cloth, silvery and green lettering and decorations on front board and spine [a little spine ends and corner wear]; 6.3/4" x 10"; floral decorated endpapers [front endpaper is damaged]; 1152 pages, no illustrations, very good condition.
Argosy, later titled The Argosy, Argosy All-Story Weekly and The New Golden Argosy, was an American pulp magazine from 1882 through 1978, published by Frank Munsey until its sale to Popular Publications in 1942. It is the first American pulp magazine. In the era before the Second World War, Argosy was the most prestigious publications in the pulp market. John Clute, discussing the American pulp magazines in the first two decades of the twentieth century, has described The Argosy and its companion The All-Story as "the most important pulps of their era."
