Southern Ute traditional Parfleche by artist Austin Box.
Signed and dated. Colored by hand, with hide tassels. Made by tribal elder and artist Austin Box, a traditional Native American rawhide container with hair removed, dried by stretching on a frame. Historically used as traditional regalia, as well as to contain maps, and hold social, spiritual, and symbolic meaning.
