PROVENANCE:
Express Marine, Inc., Camden, New Jersey.
note:
This painting depicts the British clipper Robin Hood, built in 1856. Her voyage times were shorter than those of other contemporary clippers. Her fastest passage was in 1858, at the end of monsoon season, from Fuzhou: 99 days with 1,032,660 lbs of tea. After eight voyages she was sunk off the coast of Dungeness on November 22, 1864, bound for Hong Kong, after colliding with the ship The Spirit of the Ocean.
