Description
Kerouac Jack
Jack Kerouac's Lamb's Wool-Lined Boots, from his Estate
A pair of boots personally owned and worn by Jack Kerouac (1922-1969), the famous American writer who brought us On The Road (1957). Provenance: The piece will be accompanied by an estate certification signed by John Shen-Sampas, executor of the Kerouac Estate by descent. John Shen-Sampas is the son of John Sampas, who was the brother-in-law of Jack Kerouac, and the brother of Stella Kerouac, Jack's wife.
Kerouac was nearly 5'9" and had a stocky, athletic build. He had rather large feet for his height; on average, his footwear corresponded to a size 11 - 11 1/2. Kerouac's footwear shows considerable wear and heavy use. What alleyways, parks, and docksides did they tread? Did they pace the snowy streets and dive bars of Kerouac's home in Lowell, Massachusetts?
The lot include a pair of leather winter boots, possibly shoe covers, with lamb's wool-lined cuffs, each boot decorated with a cental vertical stripe and a fancy heel cap. Moderate insect damage including scattered holes and loss, especially to the left boot. The lamb's wool is brittle and fragile in places. Uneven wear to the bottoms of the soles. Else good to very good. Approximately 11.75" long.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
