"The Elegant Horse, Tom" Handsome Equestrian Broadside
A mid-nineteenth-century printed broadside from Pennsylvania advertising "The Elegant Horse, Tom", ca. April 8, 1847. Depicting a vignette of a muscular horse being led by a whip-carrying servant at top, and with sixteen lines of text of varying sizes, fonts, and styles appearing below. Framed behind glass in an ebonized frame. Not examined out of frame. Expected paper folds and scattered holes, stains, and foxing, else near fine and extremely handsome. Ready for hanging! Overall framed size: 18.5" x 24.5" x 1.25".
Tom, a black 8-year-old horse, was available for labor or show; options included one-time rentals or reservations for the season. Advertised by Tom's owner John Cline and printed by the office of R. G. Harper, official printer of the Gettysburg Sentinel.
