A Gorham Mfg. Co. Martelé Silver Kettle on Stand, Providence, Rhode Island, 1911 Marks: Martelé, (lion-anchor-G under eagle), .9584, WSL, SPAULDING & Co., CHICAGO. 13-1/2 x 10 x 8-1/2 inches (34.3 x 25.4 x 21.6 cm) (with stand and handle upright) 67.36 troy ounces PROPERTY FROM A SOUTHERN COLLECTION The kettle with hand hammered surface, having floral finial to hinged lid, swing handle terminating above chased repoussé floral decoration, raised on a four shaped, lobed feet with conforming motif; stand mimics kettle with decoration climbing the two raised support arms. Originally retailed by Spaulding & Co., Chicago, Illinois. According to the Gorham Archives, production of the kettle on stand began October 5m 1911m Alfred J. Ottestad made the lot in 160 hours and it required an additional 73 hours of chasing by David Wilmot. The final price was $300.
