A Five-Piece Gorham Mfg. Co. Martelé Partial Gilt Silver Tea and Coffee Service, Providence, Rhode Island, 1906 Marks: SHREVE, CRUMP, & LOW CO., Martelé, (eagle), (lion-anchor-G), .9584, K/QC 9-1/2 x 9-3/4 x 5-1/4 inches (24.1 x 24.8 x 13.3 cm) (largest, coffee pot) 112.93 troy ounces PROPERTY FROM A SOUTHERN COLLECTION The coffee and tea service comprising: 1 coffee pot; 1 tea pot; 1 creamer with gilt washed rim; 1 covered sugar bowl; 1 waste bowl with gilt washed rim. 5 Total The five-piece coffee and tea service, three with acorn-form finials atop domed lids atop flared rims with undulating edges, all with lobed baluster-form bodies over shaped foot, some affixed with bracket-form handles and S-curved spouts, with faint hand-hammer marks and delicately chased floral motifs throughout. According to the Gorham Archives the five piece set with code K (over) QC was begun on October 18, 1906, it required a total of 304 hours to make, and an additional 249 hours of chasing. The final price was $630. A kettle was originally made to accompany this set and was marked K (over) QD.

Push to foot of teapot causing instability, a few scattered pin dents to the body of the creamer, and general fine surface scratches indicative of light use and polishing. Presents well.
