1861-Dated Civil War Model 1853 British Tower Enfield Percussion Musket in Choice Extremely Fine Condition
1861-Dated Civil War Period, British Model 1853 Tower Enfield Percussion Musket, Choice Extremely Fine.
This excellent quality 1861-Dated, Civil War Period Model 1853 TOWER Enfield Percussion Musket, has a 39", .577 /.58 caliber rifled barrel. These Muskets were imported by both sides during the Civil War, but were predominately used by the Confederate Army. It is marked on the top of breech with multiple Government Inspector's marks and fitted with long range rear sight. Regulation pattern brass and steel furniture (barrel bands with inspector's marks). The butt plate is stamped "226". Its lock marked "TOWER", dated "1861" and is stamped with a "CROWN" at the tail end of the lock-plate without the Queens "VR" cypher (indicating that this weapon was not intended for the British Military, rather it was made for sale outside of the country to the overseas market (United States) for use in the Civil War. All steel surfaces are blued (about 90% original blue remains) with very minor areas of discoloration. The stock is solid having many Inspector's marks (especially on the right side of butt circular stamp "PIMLICO 1861", plus "24" stamped on the left, and (2) added marks just above the right side of trigger guard, plus (4) marks just below the trigger guard. "I GODDARD" is stamped on the left side just below the rear side lock screw. There are some minor light scratches and dings from handling, which appears minimal. This Musket has the original wood tompion. An excellent example of this Model 1853 Tower Enfield Percussion Musket, in choice condition and in good mechanical working order.
