President Theodore Roosevelt has signed this appointment, designating the recipient “Major in the Corps of Engineers.” dated December 28, 1905, in black fountain pen. The document is also signed by the Acting Secretary of War. During the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt resigned as Navy Secretary to lead a Regiment of the US Cavalry that became known as the "Rough Riders." In a life devoted to public service he later became Governor of New York State, Vice President of the United States and in 1901 following President McKinley's assassination, became the youngest President of the Nation's history. Light signatures are fully legible with sporadic tone spots throughout. Good condition. 14 X 19. Matted 18 X 23. Comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity
