Pocket Watch from Family of Captain Myles Standish together with a Collection of Commander Henry B. Soule Navy Certificates & Documents signed by Theodore Roosevelt & Other Presidents. The open face, white enameled dial, brass pair-case, key wind pocket watch reputedly from the family of Captain Myles Standish, accompanied by a fitted box with red velvet and featured together with nine navy documents and certificates of Commander Henry Bishop Soule, U.S.N. as follows: Certificate signed by President Grover Cleveland and dated September 11, 1894 appointing Soule as Gunner in the U.S. Navy; certificate for medal of honor from The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution dated May 1, 1899, for recognition of Soule's service during the war with Spain in 1898; certificate signed by President Theodore Roosevelt and dated October 23, 1901 appointing Soule as Ensign in the U.S. Navy; certificate signed by President Theodore Roosevelt and dated February 1, 1902 appointing Soule as Ensign in the U.S. Navy; diploma for ocean navigation from International Correspondence Schools Scranton, Pennsylvania and dated November 21, 1903; certificate signed by President Theodore Roosevelt dated September 7, 1904 appointing Soule as Lieutenant (junior grade) in the U.S. Navy; certificate signed by President Theodore Roosevelt dated February 11, 1905 appointing Soule as Lieutenant (junior grade) in the U.S. Navy; certificate signed by President Theodore Roosevelt dated February 7, 1906 appointing Soule as Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy together with a certificate signed by President William Howard Taft dated August 22, 1911 appointing Soule as Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. Provenance: Inheritance of Dianne Keogh (formerly known as Dianne Haler-Dean). Acquired from her uncle; Commander Henry Bishop Soule, U.S.N. Newspaper clipping from November 30, 1932, Alexandria Virginia "Antiques Loaned for D.A.R. Exhibit; Myles Standish Watch and Other Priceless Relics Displayed at Alexandria". Letter to Dianne Haler (currently Keogh) from descendent of Capt. Myles Standish dated September 15, 1952 indicating that he was made aware of her possible possession of the watch and would like to inquire on purchasing the watch from her if it was authentic. Typed family lineage of how the watch came down the family line beginning with the granddaughter of Captain Myles Standish. The watch was reputedly passed on to Sarah Standish-Soule, granddaughter of Capt. Myles Standish whom married Benjamin Soule, grandson of George Soule, a passenger on the Mayflower. From there, the watch was passed down through six generations and ended with Henry Bishop Soule and lastly, his niece Dianne Keogh. Note: Watch has numerous dents and the dial is cracked and chipped. All parts are loose or apart. Some documents have torn corners.
