Description
Cabinet Cards by Ichida, Kobe, Japan. Here are two unusual 19th century cabinet card photographs of an older kindly Japanese nanny or nurse shown with an American baby said to be possibly of the Pierson family. The first image shows the Japanese woman seated, holding up the baby’s head for the camera. The second image shows the same Japanese lady, standing with her back to the camera, holding the infant over her shoulder so he or she faces the camera. Standing next to her in profile is a younger Japanese woman, possibly the assistant nurse, standing in profile and looking at the baby. Both images are stamped at the bottom on the front of the mount S. Ichida Photographer, KOBE JAPAN. There are also pictures of medals or coins pictured with the marks on the mount, as well as writing in Japanese characters. The pair of cabinet cards have average tones but do have soiling and spotting. The image of the older nurse with the baby has some foxing but it is not as obvious in real life as it looks on computer. Each measures 6.5 x 4.25 inches. The backs of the images are unmarked. A pair of images of an unusual subject.
