LI Kuchan is a Chinese, 20th century, male. Born 1898, in Gaomi District, Shandong Province; died 1983. Painter. Landscapes, animals. Li Kuchan was born into a poor peasant family in Shandong province. He studied Western painting at the national art academy in Beijing, paying his way by driving a rickshaw. He was helped and influenced by the painter Qi Baishi. He taught at the national art academy and the central academy of fine arts and became a director of the Federation of Chinese Artists. He was teaching and painting right up to his death.
