Description
A lacquered cast iron commemorative plaque for the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin around-the-world flight (weltflug) in August 1929, shows a zeppelin in relief flying over the Big Dipper, inscribed on the back "WELTFLUG 1929 GRAF ZEPPELIN EBERHARD ENCKE - BERLIN." The trip was urged on by tycoon William Randolph Hearst, and the airship carried Lady Grace Drummond-Hay, a Hearst correspondent, making her the first woman to travel around the globe via air travel. The historic trip began and ended at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey. The plaque is signed by Eberhard Encke, a popular Berlin artist.
