THE CALLING OF SAINT PETER Oil on massive wooden panel. 83 cm x 169 cm (F. 85 cm x 174 cm). Verso: Four inserted backside sponki. Part. min. old restored. Frame. The starting point of the 'Seaswabian School' was Konrad Witz (around 1400-1446 Basel), born in Rottweil. Over the years, a large numer of well-known artists grouped around him, who shaped the art there for a long time. In the 16th century Hans Kaspar Memberger and his brother Jacob Memberger worked in Constance. Hans Kaspar Memberger's son, Hans Jacob Memberger, initially worked on Lake Constance before going to Salzburg and painting under Archbishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau (1582-1612). Hans Jacob Memberger was particularly known for his unusual wide formats, such as the painting offerd here. hier angebotene Gemälde. Provenance: South German/Swabian Private Collection. Um ihn gruppierten sich im Laufe der Jahre eine Vielzahl namhafter Künstler, die über Jahrzehnte hinweg das dortige Kunstschaffen prägten. In Konstanz waren im 16. Jahrhundert Hans Kaspar Memberger und sein Bruder Jakob Memberger tätig. Hans Kaspar Membergers Sohn, Hans Jacob Memberger, malte anfänglich am Bodensee bevor er nach Salzburg ging und unter Erzbischof Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau (1582-1612) arbeitete.
