Item Details
Description
Watercolor with charcoal on paper laid down to illustration board (appears to be the front or back cover of a sketchbook), titled "Morgen" on the reverse and signed lower right* (Edward Munch, 1863-1944). 7 1/2 x 11 5/8 inches. Very slight paper losses along the four margins probably caused when the watercolor was removed from a mat or frame; the illustration board is very slightly bowed. Otherwise, very good condition overall with no damage or repairs noted. Sold without frame to facilitate inspection and shipping.

Provenance: Gifted to the consignor's family circa 1975 by Ingrid Petersen, a bookkeeper who worked for the consignor's father. According to family notes, Ingrid Petersen said she was given the watercolor by her uncle who worked at a chocolate factory in Norway, when he met Edward Munch. It is believed that Ingrid Petersen's uncle was given the watercolor directly by the artist. Subsequently bequeathed to the consignor in the 1990's.
