Mahakala with Palden Lhamo Thangka, Tibet, Kham Region, 18th or 19th century, gouache and raised gold on cotton, 24 x 18.5 inches, in a cherry wood frame 31 x 25 inches, central figure of blue Mahakala (Gurgyi Gonpo), in squatting posture, holding knife and skullcup, with ornate gandhi stick across lap, Palden Lhamo on mule at right, Garuda bird and Vajradhara Buddha at top center, Sachen Kunga Nyingpo at upper left and Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltsen at upper right in monk robes, five rakshasa attendants at bottom. Himalayan Art Resources number 90545.
Condition
Minor fraying along the border, age appropriate creasing and small areas of light paint thinning, most colors and gold still bold, unexamined outside of frame.
