Description
Very beautifully formed and burnished blackware pottery vessel in the unusual style of this region and period. The graceful shapes may refer back to the Neolithic shapes and styles. Each side mirrors the other with two carved spirals that continue the lines of the broad strap handles. The neck had very finely hatched bands below the rim of the angular spouts. This example has remnants of unusual intersecting white lines creating a net-like feel covering the body of the vessel. These vessels are usually found interred in rock-cut tombs and cist burials of the Han Dynasty, possibly made by more nomadic groups not of the more dominant Han ethnic cultures.
