Large Antique Bronze Vessel of Han dynasty. Garlic Bulb shaped mouth. 16 1/2 inches tall by 8 3/4 inches wide.The garlic-shaped hu originated in the state of Ch'in in Shensi. From the Warring States period, passing through the Ch'in dynasty and down into the Western Han period, varieties with a straight neck and round body as well as a curving neck and round body flourished as the straight-necked flat hu became relatively less common.For a earlier similar example see: Sotheby's New York N08722, Informing the Eye of the Collector: Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art from J.T.
