Richard Nixon Signed Presentation 1st Edition The Real War

A superb 1st edition hardcover copy of Richard Nixon's The Real War (New York: Warner Books, 1980) signed and dedicated by the author as "To Eric Stroh / With best wishes / from / Richard Nixon" inscribed in blue ink at the center of the half title page. The red cloth-covered boards are embossed in black and silver along the spine under the original dust jacket with a protective sleeve. Scattered light foxing along the top and side of the text block, else clean and crisp pages. The dust jacket covers are slightly toned, with two minor closed tears on the back, and the front cover flap has been cropped where the retail price was removed. A light pencil inscription (entirely reversible) is located on the front free end paper. Else near fine. 341pp. 8vo. 6.25" x 9.25" x 1.5".

In The Real War, former President Richard Nixon (1913-1994) argued in twelve chapters that the West was approaching a critical reckoning; not just the end of one century, but possibly the end of its existence as hitherto known. "The central thesis of this book is that the West, today, has crossed the threshold of a period of acute crisis in which its survival into the twenty-first century is directly at stake" (p. 6).

Richard Nixon was the author of a dozen books published between 1960 and 1994. Select titles include Six Crises (1962), The Real War (1980), No More Vietnams (1985), and Beyond Peace (1994). The ex-president devoted himself to writing, traveling, and speaking engagements in the years following his resignation. Nixon’s repentance about past mistakes, as well as his later political involvement, did much to rehabilitate his tarnished public image.

Nixon's dedicatee Eric Stroh was associated with the Stroh Brewing Company established in Detroit, Michigan in the mid-nineteenth century.
