37 pp. 35x42.8 (13¾x17") Spiral bound scrapbook with pictorial cover. Letters and other ephemera stapled in. Some laid in airline ephemera.
Scrapbook of press clippings, letters, and other official correspondence, primarily related to post-WWII veteran housing. Most materials include Sorkin's explanatory captions.
Marvin Sorkin (1915-2005) was a US Foreign Service Officer. Prior to WWII he wrote for the Syracus Post-Standard. He served in the US Army from May 1942-January 1946, first in an armored division and later as an army reporter and press officer in England, North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. After the war he served as press officer for Wilson W. Wyatt, the Veterans Emergency Housing Expeditor for President Truman. Most of the material in the scrapbook pertains to this position. Sorkin would go on to work for the US Department of State, the US Information Agency, and hold numerous other positions related to foreign press.
