DESCRIPTION: World War II scrapbook of James W. Treichler who served in the US Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate. Includes a printed thank you letter from Harry Truman, a signed thank you letter from James Forrestal, and a photostat copy of his discharge paper followed by numerous pages of black and white photographs mounted with patriotic corner blocks. Includes images of scenery around ports including China, friends on and off ship, real photo postcards of ships, and an image of a decapitation. Also includes eighteen small identified ship photographs including mine sweepers and aircraft carriers. James Treichler enlisted on August 13, 1944 and during his service earned the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was an engineer with Sperry Rand New Holland and then taught at Thaddeus Stevens College. He died in Lancaster in 2015. MEASUREMENTS: Ranging from 2-3/4" x 2" to 9-7/8" x 6-3/4". Album 12-3/4" x 16". CONDITION: Paper scrapbook pages with toning and some edge chipping and scattered small tears. Photographs with various levels of light toning.
