Description
The lot features four pieces of early 19th Century beaded panels from the Ute, Iroquois and Crow Native American Indians. First features a Ute tail beaded panel most likely from a lance sheath or bow quiver sheath. This piece shows a heavy Indian tanned Buffalo hide with green ocher painted finish having pony glass trade beads in chalk white, black, light blue and red. The second piece is a fancy dimensional beaded panel from the Iroquois Indians. This piece has a whimsical floral pattern in semi-transparent and white beads having a dimensional design. Lastly shows two pieces a trade bead necklace and beaded panel from the Crow Native American Indians. The panel shows a red and blue Stroud trade clothe construction with whimsical floral beadwork in all early glass trade seed beads of chalk white, cobalt, sky light blue and green. The necklace shows all faceted glass trade beads with a Russian design strung on Indian tanned hide with brass trade beads as well. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery. The largest piece measures 28" long by 4 1/2" wide, with red piece measuring 11" long by 2" wide, the pouch measures 8 1/4" long by 4" wide, and the necklace measures 7 1/4" long while strung.
