Description
**First Time At Auction**

Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A charming cast brass statue of Hanuman, the monkey-faced devotee to Lord Rama, standing with his weight shifted to the right leg upon a lotus pedestal, dressed in opulent garments and ornaments, holding a Hanuman Gada (mace) in his right hand. The gada is the primary weapon of the Hindu god Hanuman, and it is a symbol of his sovereignty or authority to rule. Metaphorically the gada represents life (prana), bravery, strength, virility, and radiance. Size: 6.25" H (15.9 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA
