Gregory McHuron (Wyoming, 1945 - 2012)
Based from his home and studio in Jackson, Wyoming, plein-air painter Greg McHuron works in both oil and watercolor, primarily painting wildlife and landscapes throughout the United States and Canada. Like his teacher and mentor, the late Conrad Schwiering, Greg paints on location, his on the spot field sketches capturing the drama and excitement of these rapidly changing scenes as they unfold.
McHuron notes,"If I can capture that particular feeling, I know that those viewing my work will come to feel some of the emotions and excitement that motivated my wanting to record this particular fleeting moment. I'm a firm believer that an artist should live in an area which has the subjects they want to paint-to surround themselves with their subject, thus to better understand it and to paint it with knowledge."
A member of the Society of Animal Artists since 1979, his many awards include the 1999 Wyoming Artist Association-Artist of the Year. His paintings are found in major private, corporate and museum collections across the country including the National Wildlife Art Museum, Jackson, Wyoming; Bennington Center for The Arts, Bennington, Vermont; Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming; Leighton Foundation, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
In January of 2002 he was the Artist In Residence at the National Wildlife Art Museum. Greg McHuron has been profiled in "Wildlife Art News", "Southwest Art", and "Art of the West".
