Description
Extremely scarce early 1883 map is different from the more common later 1883 and 1884 version of Cram’s Texas. The later versions have green county borders with rose hachures for the state outline. This map, the scarce version, has yellow county borders with rose state outline. The inset of this map is the panhandle. It includes Greer County as part of Texas, rather than Oklahoma Territory. Greer County was taken by the federal government as part of the Oklahoma Territory in 1896, after the U. S. Supreme Court decision in Oklahoma vs Texas. All railroad names, routes and railway stations are depicted, with the mileage shown between stations. Map also shows western forts, water holes and the names of Mexican border towns. Enlarged Green County before it’s split apart into several smaller counties. Wide margins. Pea-size paper disturbance in top paper edge. Very light toning at left and right paper edges. 11.75 x 17.
