Description
Expertly crafted model of J.P. Morgan's private commuter yacht "Navette," which he used to travel between his home on Centre Island near Glen Cove, New York and Manhattan. Navette was built by Herreshoff in 1916 and was 114 feet long. The elegant, lean craft was built for speed. Her original power plant was a specially built pair of steam engines designed by Edward Warren, an associate of Nikola Tesla. The planked model here shows exceptional detail with built up cabins and scale brass fittings in a custom display case. Dates from the late nineteenth century. Provenance: from the collection of The Westervelt Company, once sold at Christies. Dimensions: 10"H x 42"W x 12"D
