Description
Outstanding late 19th century vase, c.1880.20 inches high, 10.5 inches wide. The painted reserve on one side is signed E.Buffet, probably for the painter Etienne Buffet. The vase was most likely made in Paris just before the turn of the century. The vase has a decorative surface like a granular sand, where you could strike a match on it.It is like a rough crystalline type surface, that mimics broken glass. We don't know the exact term to describe this surface finish, popular in Paris at this time. You can see and feel this surface decoration in the olive colored areas of the vase near the top and bottom, that has the black decorative lines running through.
Condition
Good condition overall, there was a hole in the bottom, now restored.Proabably was a lamp at one time, then restored back to a vase.
