Item Details
Description
Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Period Tongzhi reversed red glaze bamboo motif bowls. The porcelain potted with a shallow body, of a shallow vessel, broad wide cavetto, with a straight opening lip, raised on a small round, slightly raised concave footing. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in ruby red underglaze base color which contrast against the famille rose design color. The Exterior adorned with abundant sturdy bamboo tree interspersed with foliage surround the bowls. Bamboo is viewed as a symbol of traditional Chinese values. It is an example of the harmony between nature and human beings. People think its deep root denotes resoluteness; its tall, straight stem represents honor; its hollow interior modesty and its clean and spartan exterior exemplify chastity. Ancient Chinese literature held bamboo in profound esteem. China is well known as the Kingdom of Bamboo. China grows 400 species of bamboo, and one third of all known bamboo species in the world are grown in China. In traditional Chinese culture, bamboo is a symbol of Oriental beauty. It represents the character of moral integrity, resistance, modesty and loyalty. It also stands as an example of loneliness and elegance, among others. This value becomes one of the major themes in Chinese painting, calligraphy and poetry. Bamboo culture always plays a positive role in encouraging people to hold on when facing tough situations. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eyes. The porcelain displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.

The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six underglaze red script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Tongzhi Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.
