Francis S. Dixon (New York/California, 1879-1967) 30" x 25" oil on canvas of large jar with pine branches and dried flowers. Signed lower right. In gilt and linen frame, 35 x 29". Francis was born in Queens, Long Island, New York, and was named after his mother, Francis Stillwell. By the age of twenty he was already considered a fine painter. He studied at the Art Students League, New York with artists Frank DuMond, Robert Henri, and Herbert Twachtman. He traveled to California in 1915 and returned to New York in 1917. Dixon exhibited throughout New England, especially New York. He was a member of several art orgainizations including the Salmagundi Club, New York Condition slight paint flaking lower right corner, else Fine.
