Francis S. Dixon (NY/CA, 1879-1967) 8" x 10" oil on board of California seascape. Signed lower right, "F.S. Dixon." Written on verso with name and NY address of artist. Francis was born in Queens, Long Island, New York, and was named after his mother, Francis Stillwell. By the age of twenty, he was already considered a fine painter. He studied at the Art Students League, New York, with artists Frank DuMond, Robert Henri, and Herbert Twatchman. He traveled to California in 1915 and returned to New York in 1917. Dixon exhibited throughout New England, especially New York. He was a member of several art organizations including the Salmagundi Club, New York. In nice gilt frame, 15 1/2 x 13 1/2". Condition Fine.
