This lot consists of a framed oil painting on board, done in the Social Realist style of Joseph Fleck (American, 1892-1977). A hand-painted inscription at lower left reads, "J. Fleck 1913". This framed piece measures approximately 22.25" x 16.25"; with an approximate image sight of 18.75" x 12.75".

Image depicts a handsome, weathered man with a dapper appearance and a confident gaze. He sports a feather in his cap and even a four-leaf clover that has been carefully pinned to his collar. Full of depth and detail, this disarming portrait is both unique and intimate. A fine addition to any collection.

Joseph Fleck (American, 1892-1977) was a painter and muralist who received his formal training at the Royal Viennese Art Academy and Royal Art Academy in Munich. He lived and worked throughout the American West, using his brush and his artistic knowledge to honor places from Missouri to New Mexico to Oklahoma. Fleck has been heavily awarded for his work in painting, served as artist in residence and Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Missouri, and is beloved today as a symbol of American modernism.
