Description

This is a rare oldceremonial container from the Dogon peoples of Mali, Africa. Carved from a hard wood with incised geometric designs and featuring two male riders on horseback, and the vessel is also supported by 2 more equestrian images. The vessel has a fitted lid and was carved from 2 pieces of wood. The wear and weathering are evident and the style is quite charming. A very good old example of the form. The figure measures 34 inches tall x 9 inches wide.
