Whitney 7 Shot, 31 caliber Beals Patent WALKING BEAM revolver.This revolver was designed by Fordyce Beals while Colt still held an active patent on revolvers that indexed by cocking the hammer to engage a HAND. To circumvent Sam Colt's patent, Beals design has the ring trigger rotate and index the cylinder by pushing forward and pulling backward. The hammer must be cocked separately.
This model of revolver is commonly known as the WALKING BEAM mechanism as the trigger walks forward then backward to rotate and lock the cylinder.
