Description
One of the most modern designs used during the Civil War was this self cocking 44 caliber six shot army revolver made by the Starr arms company. Total government purchases amounted to 21,050, with perhaps 2,000 more in private sales, etc. Pulling the trigger rotates the cylinder, cocks the hammer, and hits a secondary trigger to fire it when pulled enough back. Issue records mix these up with the 1863 single actions but cavalry units known to have carried Starr revolvers include the 1st NH; 7th Michigan; 12th NY; 2nd Ohio; 1st VT; 1st MO; 8th PA, 14th PA; 13th TN; 1st WI; 8th KY 1st CO; 16th IL; and 2nd IN, among others. This one was issued and saw use, but is complete and all original. 22000 serial number range. The metal is steel gray with some darker gray spotting. Grips show wear. Markings are very good and serial number cylinder and frame matches.
