Herbert Hoover TLS Re: the Navy League
1p typed letter signed by President Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) as "Herbert Hoover" at lower right. Written at the White House in Washington, D.C. on October 30, 1931. On watermarked cream bifold stationery with "The White House / Washington" letterhead. The remaining pages are blank. Bearing no fewer than five embossed seals from "The Womans National Foundation / 1921" positioned mostly at upper right; one of the embossed seals touches the beginning of "Herbert". With expected light paper folds, and isolated edge darkening, else near fine. 7" x 8.875".
President Hoover requested that William M. Galvin, Executive Secretary of the Navy League, provide him with a complete list of the organization's members.
In part:
"I would be very glad if you could furnish me with a full list of the members of the Navy League. If you have no extra copies of such list I would be glad to furnish the necessary clerical assistance to make it…"
The Navy League of the United States had been established in 1902 under the auspices of President Theodore Roosevelt to provide a support system for maritime service members and their families. The organization, which encompasses the U.S. Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Merchant Marine, still operates today. Its mission is primarily through education and advocacy.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
