AN ANTIQUE MAP, "Motus in Coelo Spirales, Quo Planetæ inferiores, Venus et Mercurius fecundum Tychonicorum Hypothesin exhibent, pro exemplo ad annum Christi præcipue 1712 to 1713," 18TH CENTURY, hand colored engraving on paper, plate number 9, a page fragment from Atlas Coelestis, printed by Homann Heirs, a third generation of the original Johann Homann(1664-1724) publishing house, after works presented by astronomer Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr (1677-1750) for scientific publication by the academic society Academiae Caesareae Leopoldino-Carolinae Naturae Curiosorum, plate: 19 1/2" x 23". Note: The astronomical map showing the courses of Venus and Mercury compiled over the years 1712-1713. The model composed of meticulously recorded scientific observations, inspired by the work of Tycho Brahe (1546-1601). Provenance: Property from a Corporate Art Collection.
Condition
Fading of hand coloring, some dimpling and paper waves, slight creases, toning, some darkened surface stains, some old exposure to water drops near lower center, causing some pigment to bleed, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age.
